Here's the short version before the deep dive. Every 4Runner from 1984 to today runs a 6x139.7mm (6x5.5") bolt pattern. Nothing changed there. What did change is the 6th gen: for 2025 and up, Toyota shrank the hub bore from 106.1mm down to 95.1mm and moved from M12x1.5 studs to M14x1.5. That means 5th gen wheels don't bolt on a 6th gen truck without modification. Get the pattern, bore, and stud pitch right for your generation and everything else is stance and tire choice.

Before you shop aftermarket, it helps to know what came from the factory across each generation. The 4Runner ships different wheels depending on trim and year, and stock offsets sit deep in the tucked range, which is why factory 4Runners always look like they've got room in the fenders.

4th gen (2003–2009)

The 4th gen came with 16-inch, 17-inch, or 18-inch factory wheels depending on trim, all riding on high +25 to +30 offsets with 265-series tires. Practical, capable, and the platform the whole modern 4Runner aftermarket built around.

5th gen (2009–2024)

The 5th gen kept the same 6x139.7 pattern, 106.1mm bore, and M12x1.5 studs as the 4th gen, so wheels cross-fit between the two generations. Factory sizes ran from 17x7 on the base and TRD Off-Road up to 20-inch on Limited, and the offsets dropped noticeably compared to the 4th gen. Most of the run sits around +15, with the earliest 5th gens dipping as low as +4. That lower offset is why 5th gens look a little more filled-out from the factory than 4th gens do.

6th gen (2025+)

The 6th gen is where the spec sheet shifts. Bolt pattern stays 6x139.7, but the hub bore dropped to 95.1mm and the studs went up to M14x1.5. Factory wheels run 17s, 18s, and 20s across the trims, with offsets jumping way back up to +45, +50, and +55, deeper into the tucked range than any 4Runner in the last 15 years. That leaves a lot of room to pull the stance out with aftermarket.

TOYOTA 4RUNNER WHEEL FITMENT

This is where a bad purchase happens, and where the 6th gen 4Runner throws people a curveball. 4Runner wheel fitment comes down to four numbers: bolt pattern, hub bore, offset, and width. Nail all four and the wheel sits right, clears the brakes, and runs smooth. Miss one and you're chasing a vibration or holding a wheel that won't seat.

Bolt pattern: unchanged across every generation

Every 4Runner from 1984 to now runs a 6x139.7mm bolt pattern, the same six-lug pattern used on the Tacoma and Tundra. That part is easy. Any wheel built for a six-lug Toyota truck has the right hole pattern for your 4Runner.

Hub bore and studs: the 6th gen changed the rules

For fifteen years, from 2010 to 2024, the 5th gen ran a 106.1mm hub bore with M12x1.5 studs. The 4th gen used the same setup, so 4th and 5th gen wheels are cross-compatible without adapters. Then Toyota launched the 6th gen in 2025 and changed both: the hub bore dropped from 106.1mm to 95.1mm, and the studs went from M12x1.5 to M14x1.5.

That means 5th gen wheels do not bolt on a 6th gen 4Runner without modification. The bore is too big for the smaller hub (they'd sit lug-centric, which on a truck this heavy is how you get a vibration you can't balance out), and the M12 lug holes won't accept the thicker M14 studs. Two ways to fix it: buy wheels made specifically for the 6th gen (machined to 95.1mm and drilled M14 out of the box), or have your existing 5th gen wheels drilled out to the new stud size and add hub-centric rings to bring the bore down. Most wheel manufacturers offer both options now.

Wheels built specifically for the 6th gen, like the 6th gen fitments in our own lineup, are machined to 95.1mm and drilled M14x1.5 from the factory. Nothing to adapt, seats hub-centric out of the box.

Offset: where the stance lives

Factory offset on the 5th gen sits around +4 to +15, and the 6th gen jumped to +55 to +60. Both look tucked. Going aftermarket, most 4Runner builds land between +25 for a clean daily-driver stance and -12 for the planted, fender-filling look most owners are after. On the 5th gen especially, 17x9 with a -12 offset running 33s on a modest lift is one of the most-run setups in the community. Push wider into the -18 range and plan on some liner trimming to clear at full lock. The further negative you go, the more the wheel pushes out and the more prep the truck needs to run it clean.

WILL 33s AND 35s FIT?

The 4Runner takes big tires better than most SUVs, and the answers depend on which gen you're on and how much lift you're running.

Will 33s fit a 4Runner?

Yes, on all three gens. On the 5th gen, a 285/70R17 (a true 33) fits with a modest 2 to 3-inch lift and the right offset, with light trimming of the mud flaps. Many owners run them near stock height with a leveling kit and no rubbing. On the 6th gen, TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims fit 33-inch tires (285/70R18) on factory suspension with no rubbing at all. The 4th gen fits 33s on a 2 to 2.5-inch front lift with fender liner adjustment and a wheel offset around 0 to -12.

Will 35s fit a 4Runner?

Yes, but it's a build. On the 5th gen, 35s (315/70R17 or 35x12.50R17) require roughly a 3-inch lift, upper control arms, sway bar relocation, front and rear bumper trim, and often a body mount chop. It's proven and drivable, not a bolt-on afternoon. The 6th gen makes 35s dramatically easier: the wider stance and updated geometry mean the TRD Pro and Trailhunter can fit a 295/70R18 (a true 35) on stock suspension with no rubbing reported, and higher trims fit 35s with a leveling kit. The 4th gen fits 35s with commitment: 3-inch lift minimum, body mount chop, UCAs, and body panel trimming.

Do Tacoma or Tundra wheels fit a 4Runner?

Yes, with a caveat. The Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner all share the 6x139.7 pattern, but the hub bore has to match your generation. 3rd gen Tacoma and 4th/5th gen 4Runner all use 106.1mm bores, so wheels cross-fit directly. 4th gen Tacoma, 3rd gen Tundra, and 6th gen 4Runner all use 95.2mm bores (some sources round to 95.1mm, same spec) with M14 studs, so those cross-fit too. Just don't mix a 106.1mm wheel with a 95.2mm-hub truck (or vice versa) without hub rings.

What bolt pattern does the Toyota Tacoma use?

Every Toyota Tacoma from 2016 on uses a 6x139.7mm (6x5.5") bolt pattern with six lugs. This is the same pattern across the 3rd gen (2016–2023) and 4th gen (2024+), and it's shared with the 4Runner, Tundra, and other six-lug Toyota trucks.

Does the 2024+ (4th gen) Tacoma use a different hub bore?

Yes. The 4th gen Tacoma uses a 95.2mm hub bore, down from the 106.1mm bore on the 3rd gen. Toyota also switched to M14x1.5 studs on the 4th gen. If you run older 106.1mm wheels on a 4th gen truck, use 106.1mm-to-95.2mm hub-centric rings so the wheel seats on the hub instead of the lugs

What wheel offset is best for a Tacoma?

For most Tacoma builds, an offset between +25 and -12 covers the range from a clean daily-driver stance to an aggressive, fender-filling look. A +0 to +15 offset is the practical sweet spot for running 33-inch tires without rubbing the upper control arm. More negative offset means more poke and a wider stance, but also a higher chance you'll need fender trimming or a lift

Will 33s fit a Tacoma?

Yes. 33-inch tires (around 285/70R17) are the most popular Tacoma setup. On a 3rd gen they clear with a mild leveling kit and the right offset, and many owners run them near stock height with minor fender liner trimming. The 4th gen fits 33s even more easily

Will 35s fit a Tacoma?

Yes, but it takes work. Running 35s requires roughly a 2.5 to 3-inch front lift plus trimming of the fender liners and sometimes the pinch weld. A confirmed setup is a 35x12.50R17 on a 17x9 +18 wheel with a 3-inch lift. Plan on suspension work, not just a wheel and tire swap.

Do 4Runner wheels fit a Tacoma?

Yes, because both share the 6x139.7mm bolt pattern. Older 4Runner wheels bolt directly to a 3rd gen Tacoma since both use the 106.1mm hub bore. Do I need wheel spacers or hub rings on my Tacoma?

You don't need spacers for fitment, though some owners add them to push the wheels out for stance.
